Our Collection
In our museum, you will find objects from the history of Tiel. Many objects in our museum are part of Gelderland Heritage. Some of these can be found on the Collectie Gelderland website. Not all objects from our museum are listed there; the site features over 480,000 objects, providing the most comprehensive view of all Gelderland heritage.
Archaeology in Tiel

Numerous excavations have been conducted in and around Tiel in the past, uncovering archaeological finds from various periods: the Stone Age, Iron Age, the Roman period in Tiel, and the early Middle Ages. Some of these objects are on display in our museum.
Flipje Collection

Flipje is perhaps the most famous resident of Tiel. Originating in 1935 as an advertising medium and character for the Jam Factory De Betuwe from Tiel, Flipje quickly took on a life of its own. With books, keychains, cartoons, and much more, the museum boasts a fine collection.
Jam Factory De Betuwe

Established in 1885 in Tiel, the company ‘De Betuwe‘, better known for Flipje and jam, initially operated as a vinegar factory under the name ‘De Haas’. It wasn’t until 1887 that the name ‘De Betuwe’ appeared. It became: ‘Nederlandsche Fabriek van Verduurzaamde Vruchten Maatschappij de Betuwe Tiel‘.
Silver Collection

In the Style Room of the museum, you can admire exquisite examples of Tiel silver, such as special forks and spoons, bread baskets, tea caddies, and church silver. One notable piece is the silver tobacco jar in the Louis XVI style, crafted by the Tielse silversmith Adrianus van Oosterhoudt in 1784.
Paintings Collection

The museum houses a vast collection of paintings from different periods. Whether it’s from the Middle Ages like the triptych by Wellens de Cock (see photo), from unknown regional painters, or from the more renowned 20th-century painter Johan Ponsioen, you’ll find them in our museum.
Porcelain Collection

In the Style Room, you can view a beautiful collection of Imari porcelain. This collection belonged to the doctor couple Hoogenboom. Imari porcelain is the European term for Japanese porcelain made specifically for the European market in the 17th century.
Style Room

The Style Room contains many pieces of furniture donated to the museum by the Hoogenboom couple, along with the Imari porcelain. On the left, you’ll see a portrait of General Chassé. Beneath it are his sword and his famous decorations.
Metal Collection

Tiel was rich in metalware factories such as Daalderop, Metawa, and Rio Tin. The museum boasts a large collection, some of which is displayed in the permanent collection. Additionally, it is showcased in special temporary exhibitions.
