Five stories plus Flipje’s story,

In our museum, we tell the five stories of Tiel and the region. The permanent collections are arranged based on these storylines. In addition to these stories, there is of course also the story of Flipje, the icon of Tiel.

On the ground floor of the museum, you will also find the World War II Information Center and the ArcheoHotspot.

1Prehistory and Antiquity

The story of human habitation history during prehistoric times based on excavations.

2Trading and Hanseatic City

Tiel as a trading and Hanseatic city recounts the trading center of Tiel around the year 1000 and its status as a Hanseatic city during the period from 1400 to 1650.

3Fruit City on the Waal

The story of the fertile riverside landscape and fruit cultivation in the Betuwe, as well as fruit processing at the Jam Factory De Betuwe.

4WW2 and Reconstruction

The story of Tiel as a frontline city in World War II and the period of reconstruction after the war ended.

5Tiel Today

The story of the residents of Tiel. Who are they, where do they come from, and why have they chosen Tiel?

Flipje Tiel

The story of Flipje and how it transformed from being the ‘mascot’ of the Jam Factory De Betuwe to becoming the icon of Tiel.

ArcheoHotspot

At the ArcheoHotspot, visitors, school classes, and future amateur archaeologists can acquaint themselves with archaeology.

WW2 Information

Center Here, the history of Tiel and the Rivierenland region during World War II is recounted, along with the impact the war had in this area.
