Stubborn Herbs

For students in groups 1, 2, and 3

The herb garden of the Flipje and Regional Museum Tiel is filled with beautiful flowers and plants. Some smell good, others taste delicious, and there are plants that feel very strange. However, recently a root has been growing in the garden that refuses to show itself. By using their senses, the students must figure out exactly what is wrong with the root. Will you come discover what’s going on?

The Museum Assistant

For students in groups 3 and 4

Help! The Museum Guard needs you! As the guardian of the Flipje and Regional Museum, he must keep a close eye on both the largest and smallest paintings. But where have they disappeared to? Put on your detective hat and help our guard find the artworks!

To search effectively, you need to be very observant. How do you do that again? Through art observation games, you’ll search together for colors, shapes, tastes, and materials. In doing so, you’ll discover everything related to art in a museum!

Jet and Jan, Young in 1910

For students in groups 4, 5, and 6

Jet and Jan are two children aged 10 and 9. They go to school, play outside, meet friends, get up to mischief, and occasionally grumble about chores around the house. Just like things are nowadays. The only difference is that Jet and Jan live in 1910! So they walk to school – 5 kilometers in wooden shoes – and play with marbles. Also, the chores they have to do are a bit different: they have to fetch coal and darn socks. Students dive into the world of a century ago and experience life as it was back then.

Archaeology Workshop

For students in groups 5 and 6

What does an archaeologist do? Why are there many excavations done in Tiel? What stories do those objects tell? Students investigate artifacts from the past in the museum, such as those from the Roman era. They engage in five different hands-on activities to become archaeologists. They conduct an excavation, sort various finds, reconstruct a broken object, explore the function of objects, and discover special finds from Tiel and its surroundings.

Freedom of Choice

For students in grades 7 and 8

The students explore the choices people made during the war and imagine how they would have acted at that time. Additionally, they discuss how we perceive those choices now. When faced with such a decision, one expresses what he or she finds important; which value holds the most weight. By discussing dilemmas, more understanding can be gained for the various choices people make. Those who become acquainted with others’ motives discover alternatives for their own actions.
